Takt CPH
One of the core principles of the Scandinavian design movement is minimalism, not just in style, but also in everyday life.
The movement believes in using long lasting products and reducing waste. Takt, a company based out of Copenhagen, aims to achieve just that with their furniture designs.
Takt is first and foremost, a sustainable brand. The brand tries to reinvent the way people view and buy furniture. Currently, most furniture brands focus on creating low cost, low quality furniture. As the lifetime of these products are very short, most of them end up being discarded sooner than later. The cost of having to replace furniture continuously adds up for consumers, costing them more in the long run.
At Takt, the process begins with 100% eco-certified wood, sourced from sustainable forests. Working with established designers, Takt crafts the wood into contemporary furniture that can last a lifetime. To make the products available at a lower cost to customers, Takt has gotten rid of showrooms and sales staff. Instead, customers can purchase the products directly from the brand. The brand offers free shipping and returns to make it easy for the furniture to be tried out at home. The furniture pieces are also designed to be flat packed, thereby reducing CO2 emissions during transportation. The flat pack nature of the furniture also ensures that customers can easily move the furniture with them when they relocate.
To create designs that fulfill these parameters, Takt collaborates with various designers and studios. The Cross Chair was one of the brand's very first pieces, designed by London based design firm Pearson Lloyd. The design uses plywood for seating and the backrest, and solid oak wood for the structure. The flat pack chair gets its name from the cross structure that supports the seating. Its simple design ensures that customers can put the chair together quickly, using just a hex key. Pearson Lloyd later added Cross Table and Cross Chair tube - a design using steel tubes and plywood, to the Cross furniture series.
Depping & Jorgenson, a Danish design duo, designed the Arc Chair for Takt. The chair is designed as a simplified arm chair, with graceful curves that showcase the beauty of minimalism. The design merges black steel supports with black lacquered beechwood seamlessly, creating a sustainable and beautiful piece of furniture. The Soft Bench designed by Thomas Bentzen belongs to a series that includes the Soft Chair, Soft Stool and Soft Lounge Chair. The bench, made with Solid Ash, features softened edges throughout. The defining look of the bench, however, is the seating, whose curved edges envelope the structure and give it a gentle look.
Takt’s product range consists of many more spectacular designs, all of them an illustration in creativity and sustainability. The products are all simple, made to easily fit into any setting. They can further be customized from a range of finishes or furnished with eco-labelled upholstery. In the future, the brand hopes to make its products available worldwide. With low price points and arresting designs, Takt makes it easy for consumers everywhere to choose sustainability.
