Santa Living

The concept of home is an abstract one. It could be the place where you grew up with your family; it could be the place where you are now, with a chosen family, or it could be any place where you are most comfortable. It is this idea of home that César Carcaboso and Josep Vicens have tried to capture with their brand, Santa Living.

Josep and César grew up in L'Empordà in Catalonia, Spain, but met in Barcelona. Due to the difficulties they faced while growing up, they both had a frayed relationship with their hometown. In Barcelona, they made a home for themselves, filled with joy and an appreciation of art and design. Central to their well-being at home was the bed, a place to unwind, rest and be comfortable in.

On a trip to Japan, the couple became influenced by the culture of the country. They found Japan to be a seamless blend of traditional and modern, the old and the new. This inspired them to attempt to reconnect with their hometown. In repairing their relationship with the land where they grew up, they rediscovered their love for it.

This emotional and personal journey is what led to the creation of Santa Living. Santa’s first collection of bedding draws on the places and experiences the couple love in L'Empordà. Named Casa Nostra, or our house, the collection consists of three sheets - Ankaa, Acrux and Allioth. Ankaa depicts the sand; the feeling of lying on a sandy beach and the gentle warmth as you sink in comfort. The patterns and movement of the sand are shown through abstract geometrical black lines and waves on the white sheet. The exquisite blue of the Mediterranean sea and the beauty of Costa Brava is portrayed in Acrux. The undulating blue and white pattern on the bedding shows the waves of the foamy sea. It recreates the meditative feeling of watching the sea and losing all sense of self in its vast infinity.

With Allioth, the duo explore the wind beaten landscape of the Cap de Creus. Erosion lines form an abstract pattern in this bedding design. The black sheet with white and muted red patterns is bold, and designed to go against the grain.

Santa Living’s range of textiles are made using organic percale cotton. The cotton is harvested from non-GMO crops, which are grown using less water. It is then processed and made into Santa products in Guimarães, Portugal. By keeping the entire production process in one area, Josep and César manage to reduce the carbon footprint of their products. The use of high quality percale cotton ensures that the fabrics remain soft and comfortable in the long run, forever maintaining the quality of your sleep. Santa Living’s range is the embodiment of the comfort of home, a friend to the environment and to your bed.
