vielö "Simple, Quality and Sustainable Skincare"
Organic is a term often heard in association with food. Those who buy organic are looking for food grown with cleaner methods, which are better for the environment and the body. With growing awareness has come the realization that just as important as what we put into our body is what goes on it. This is where organic skin care comes in. Organic skin care brands use sustainably sourced natural ingredients in their products, creating solutions that are better for your skin. But the increasing popularity and growing demand for organic and sustainable alternatives and the still very unregulated terms such as organic and natural also open the door for widespread greenwashing. This is what vielö believes has to stop. vielö’s quest is to provide an authentic, transparent, uncompromisingly organic, locally and sustainably-made (cradle-to-cradle approach) skin care alternative for people who demand more from a brand than just a nice label.
The award winning Austrian skincare brand vielö was started by Christian Pauzenberger and Alexander Daspersgruber with a mission to simplify skincare. To achieve this, vielö started with the ingredients. Opting out of using complex and disputed ingredients, the brand chose liquid organic whey, a byproduct of cheese production, as their valuable main ingredient for their products. Whey has had a long history of being part of skincare. Whey baths and milk baths were popular from the time of Queen Cleopatra, as well as among the aristocrats of 16th century Europe. Whey is highly effective in nourishing the skin. At vielö, organic whey forms the foundation of their simple and organic range of skin products. When talking with the founders, one realizes how important it is for them to inform about the huge difference between so-called natural skincare and real organic skincare. Very often – thanks to clever advertising of big corporations – people believe they buy something organic if they simply buy natural skinare. Whey is a byproduct of dairy production, which is abundant in Austria. By sourcing it from a traditional organic dairy, vielö manages to follow a ‘cradle-to-cradle-approach’ and be a part of the circular economy model.
To give the skincare range a signature scent, Christian and Alexander worked with renowned perfumer Yogesh Kumar. The scent, known as “Explore” is made from a careful combination of organic essential oils. It is meant to be a sensory experience that balances and enhances the natural scents of the ingredients used in the products. Explore brings a quality of mindfulness and curiosity to vielö products and contributes to relax both, skin and senses.
The package design stays away from bright packaging with florals and bold colors, instead following a minimal design style that confirms their intention to keep things simple. Vielö's whey range of products include hand and body washes, lotions, balms, scrubs, shampoos and conditioners. All their products are free from disputed ingredients such as sulphates or chemicals. The products are super gentle and nourishing and unisex, all packaged in white bottles and tubes with labels clearly highlighting their appreciation for beautiful clean and minimalist design. The designs show how minimalism can be part of a sophisticated brand style while keeping things clear for the consumers.
For Christian and Alexander, the next step was to get their products certified by a trusted authority. The requirements for organic certifications are quite varied across countries and agencies. So the duo chose to get vielö products certified with Austria Bio Guarantee - an authority that holds organic brands to a much higher standard. This certification makes it easy for consumers to trust the products and their ingredients.
At a time when skincare and beauty is growing ever more complex and greenwashing is all over the place, vielö has made it their mission to keep things uncomplicated and transparent. Simplicity, quality, transparency and sustainability, the four core values of the brand, have been paid careful attention to, so that consumers can make their choices without a doubt.
