Beosound Balance by Bang & Olufsen

Bang & Olufsen are known for their pioneering work in audio and electronics, with products celebrated by engineers and designers alike.

From the first radio with alternating current and televisions on wooden legs to multi room speakers that were designed to be furniture, they have created trends while keeping with their long history rooted in Danish tradition and focused on design, function and style. Their collaborative work with designers such as Jacob Jensen and David Lewis have created product lines and design aesthetics that are still continued today. So when Bang & Olufsen decided to work with Benjamin Hubert of Layer Design, an award winning designer whose studio focuses on experience driven design, great things were to be expected. The Beosound Balance delivers on that promise, focusing on the user experience while continuing the tradition of craftsmanship at Bang & Olufsen.

The speakers are designed with a Scandinavian sensibility, using wood and aluminium accents to create a minimalistic yet luxurious look. Available in all black and natural oak, the aim of the design was to create a speaker that added to the overall ambience of the home without looking out of place. The device consists of two parts, the speaker and the base, that together resemble a sculpture on a pedestal. The speaker uses knitted fabric and aluminium along with oak wood on the base to establish a look that can pair with almost any interior style and product. The materials used in the design also creates a softer look that permits it to blend well into the interior.

The device is meant to provide an intuitive user experience, with a proximity sensor that allows the device to come to life by highlighting the controls when approached, and disappear into the decor at other times. Paired with Google Assistant, the Besound Balance can be easily activated with voice commands for a variety of functions. The favorites button also allows for easy access to frequently used functions. Benjamin Hubert developed the device to suit various styles of usage by the users. The Active Room Compensation technology modifies the sound from the speakers to suit the room it is placed in. The speakers will play the sound to fill up the room when placed in the centre, and enhance the sound from behind when placed against a wall or other surface.
